Other Information:I love Karate! When I was a child, I remember buying a book from our school on Karate and looking through it's pages wishing I had a teacher to teach me how to do the things in the pictures. Back then (and well, it wasn't that long ago!) there were very few karate studios around. Actually, I don't remember seeing any ads for karate schools except for the few in the back of comic books.
Well, I survived elementary - high school being involved in student government, playing sports and cheerleading at Bishop Verot. I received a scholarship to play softball at Edison Community College and from there traveled to Florida State University to work on my teaching degree. While there, I explored the martial art of Judo. But after almost a year of training, had to stop - I had graduated! I returned to Fort Myers and worked as a school teacher for many years. In 1985, I began working on the side with a Christian street ministry called Fire Power. We would travel the then-dark streets of downtown Fort Myers performing short mimes to communicate the gospel to whoever would "listen". After a while I discovered many of the visitors to the areas we worked at came from a "tougher" background than me. So I decided to look for a good Martial Arts school which would teach me self defense. I asked at church and was referred to Timothy Brooks.
When I entered the dojo and observed a class, I was hooked. So in January of 1987 I finally began my Karate training.
Since then, many (but not too many) years have passed. I now have a son, two dogs, a hamster, fish and two turtles. My son, whom I have the privilege of home schooling, is active at the karate dojo as well as in other activities. I'm thankful that I'm able to provide for him an education in the discipline, self respect and courage which is found in Karate-Do. I encourage all parents to involve their children as well as themselves in this worthy Art, for self defense, fitness and so much more!
